With over 100 to 250 drums and other African percussion instruments available, Shar and I ensure that each of your students will have an instrument to play during this hands-on and educational school assembly. We will guide your students in learning rhythms while encouraging creativity and fun through drumming, dancing, singing, and audience participation throughout the assembly. This is one of our highest rated services because all of your students are a part of the show and get to play authentic instruments.

Shar and I specialize in giving hundreds of students the chance to make music together because African rhythms are meant to connect us in community. Through the powerful sound of West African Drums, we bring all students together in rhythm. We often deliver School Drum Assemblies indoors (outdoor is available as well). Like our performances, students will still learn dancing and singing, but they also get to instruction on how to play the African drum and other percussion instruments when applicable. Shar and I integrate themes to fit an array of different occasions and to give students a memorable experience. Some examples of various themes delivered include: Unity, Community, Culture, Black History Month Celebrations, Wellness, Mental Health, Anti-Bullying, Drug Free and Red Ribbon Week, Testing Preparation, Back to School, and more! If special accommodations are needed, Shar and I have various options to make the set up work with your school’s class schedules.

Before the Show
When possible, we ask staff have 100 chairs/seating be pre-set by the school prior. Shar and I will arrive with ample time to set up and assist when needed. If your school does not have access to chairs or if it may be difficult to coordinate, we also have smaller drums that can be used without seating. After checking in with administration, we unload all of our drums, equipment, and sound system onto the stage and assist with arranging seating for the student drummers. Some schools have the classes who arrive first sit in the chairs and some schools have the teachers choose a few students each from their class. Students who will be drumming will have a drum preset at a chair. Other students will use handheld percussion and find a spot on the floor closer to the stage. We assist your staff in getting all students seated while welcoming everyone to the show.
During the Show
After staff introduction, Shar and I will start our 45 minute school assembly set, guiding the students in making music and rhythm using their instruments. We also teach singing, dancing, call on volunteers, and do team building rhythm based activities.
After the Show
We will remind students to leave all instruments in the cafeteria prior to exiting and often play an outro for them, leaving your students connected in song. If another assembly is to follow, we assist with ensuring everything is arranged for the next show.
