Visual and performing arts enrichment

through fun group based drumming!

Our team’s mission is to use African drumming to uplift our youth and community. Our after school programs do this through fun and engaging rhythms, activities, and songs. African drumming will give your students an opportunity to learn music while focusing on important values such as culture, community, and connection® with others.

Why African Drumming?

After school programs can be fun, exciting, and filled with music and rhythm.

During drum sessions, students will use traditionally made West African Djembe drums, hand carved from wood. These drums provide an authentic, high quality sound, and resonant vibration that is sure to keep the group synchronized and grounded in rhythm.

Our instructors are professional West African drummers who understand the SEL needs of students and how African drumming teaches kids more than just music. When culture is celebrated, respected, and shared, students begin to model the same integrity in their own self identity, interactions, and relationships.

Our program uses values while helping kids develop their skills in musical arts. We teach using positive affirmations, team-based learning, and connect the importance found in each West African rhythm.

What services do we offer?

Donte and his wife Shar provide afterschool drumming across the Central Valley and Fresno Area. All services are designed to serve multiple groups during each day(s) scheduled for African Drumming. We can conduct a larger group assembly or provide smaller group rotations so that each of your students have the opportunity to drum during enrichment. The more drums, the merrier!

1) GROUP AFRICAN DRUM CIRCLES

Donté and Shar facilitate small to large group-based drumming. We provide all drums and percussion and guide your students in rhythms, songs, and activities. Our programs are designed to fit the learning and engagement styles of your students and use fun drum activities.

*This is our most popular service recommended for K-6th grade.

2) AFRICAN DRUM CLASSES

Our middle and high school instructor teaches beginner to intermediate level rhythms, techniques, and songs. Classes provide more guided and in depth learning for students who might be playing an instrument for the first time and for those who want to enhance their rhythmic skill.

*This service is available only for Middle School and High School sites (6th/7th grade and above).

3) Interactive Performances

Donté and Shar also provide interactive performances in which your students learn about African culture, rhythms, songs, and dance. This interactive performance engages students by using audience participation.

*This service does not include instruments for students to use during the performance.
