Donté and Shar provide engaging and educational performances that feature the immersive sounds of African Drums. Your students will learn about West African culture in the context of traditional drumming, the regions of Africa in which the rhythms originated, and they get to be a part of the show through audience taught singing, dancing, clapping, and more!

Example of a school assembly performance

Below is an example of an assembly style performance

in which 3rd-6th grade watch the 45 minute show in a cafeteria/mpr .

Before the Show

Donte and Shar will arrive with ample time to set up. After checking in with administration, they will unload all of their drums, equipment, and sound system onto the stage or performance area. Students are able to sit on the floor or typical seating used for assemblies. Donte and Shar will assist your staff in getting all students seated while welcoming the students.

During the Show

After staff introduction, Donte and Shar will start their 45 minute school assembly set, playing advanced traditional drumming arrangements for the audience. They also teach singing, dancing, call on volunteers, and often bring instruments for students to play on stage.

After the Show

Donté and Shar often play an outro, leaving your students connected in song as they exit. If another assembly is to follow, they assist with ensuring everything is set up for the next show.

Different Venue Examples

Donté and Shar have a wide range of experience and can liven an array of events with the sound of African Rhythms. Their Performances can be delivered at school assemblies, multicultural events and celebrations, lunchtime performances, school based community events, background music played for students as they come to school at the start of the day, and more!
